Beginning Principals & the First Time Principals Programme
Experienced former Principal Puti Gardiner of Evaluation Associates together with her collegue Sue Ngarimu, Leadership Advisor will meet with all Beginning Principals who will be attending the conference. The aim is to ensure all NKAI beginning principals are connected with the First Time Principals programme and also supported by a mentor from within the NKAI membership.

Panel discussions will be an opportunity to hear from Iwi and ask questions about how they connect with their Kura. The second panel discussion is to hear from the Graduates of our kaupapa. There are two workshop sessions with options available in each session.

Workshop Session 1 Options
1. Growing Leadership for the Iwi, Hapū and Kura
There are two kura presenting in this workshop, both have a unique context. Te Wharekura o Rākaumangamanga and Te Kura o Ngāti Rongomai will present their journey to growing leadership for their people.
2. Education Review Office & The Kura ā Iwi Methodology
Our own Henarata Ham (Te Kura o Hīrangi, Ringa Raupā Executive) will present together with a member from the ERO team to unpack the Kura ā Iwi Methodology and what that means when they come to visit your Kura.
3. Appraisal Systems for Staff & Principals
Gerard Direen from the Education Council will present on the new Code of Professional Responsibilities and Standards for Teacher Practice in relation to Appraisal and Teacher Registration.
We will also hear about appraisal systems that are currently being run within our Kura.
Workshop Session 2 Options
1. Human Resources: The Collective Agreements & Competency
Lawyer Gretchen Stone of Harrison Stone will be presenting and facilitating a workshop of The Collective Agreements for Teachers & Support Staff. The workshop will also look at the legal process for addressing issues of 'Competency'.
Gerard Direen from the Education Council will present on issues of competency and what you are required to report to the Council and when. Gerard will shine light on what you should do if you have a concern in relation to teachers.
2. Governance Models in Ngā Kura ā Iwi
Te Kura Kaupapa Motuhake o Tawhiau, Te Whata Tau o Putauaki and Te Kura o Hīrangi will be presenting on their unique Governance models as food for thought. They will explain the make up of their boards, why that works for them and also what their constitution says to allow this model to take place.
